RMHC Malta has raised €30,000, part of which will be used to develop programmes at the new motor sensory room, set to launch soon at the charity’s Learning Centre in Qawra. The space is expected to be officially opened later this year as part of RMHC Global’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
The funds were raised through RMHC Malta’s annual fundraising dinner on October 11, which included an online silent auction from the 50th Anniversary Art Exhibition, showcasing the work of over 20 talented artists.
The proceeds will support the development of programmes at the new Motor Sensory Room at the RMHC Learning Centre in Qawra, while also helping to sustain ongoing operations.
This facility will soon offer additional opportunities for children with learning disabilities and other challenges, providing them with an innovative and supportive space to develop their motor skills in a calming environment.
The event, which also included a raffle with an array of prizes, was supported by Allelon Hospitality, Enemed, PlanIT, The Phoenicia Malta, iSpot, Nenu the Artisan Baker, PTL, McDonald’s, JPA, M.Demajo Wines & Spirits, Mediterranean Ceramics, Corinthia Hotels and OKAs at The Villa.
Chairman of RMHC Malta, Martin Xuereb, expressed his gratitude, stating: “We are incredibly proud of the success of this year’s fundraising events, and it’s heartening to see the community come together to support our cause. With the Motor Sensory Room now fully equipped, we can start offering even more essential services to the children and families who rely on our Learning Centre.”
These events are part of RMHC’s broader efforts to support families and children in need through education, therapy, and community services. Since its establishment in 2019, the RMHC Learning Centre has offered hundreds of children, parents and practitioners a safe and supportive environment, bridging crucial gaps in local services.
Stephania Dimech Sant, Executive Director of RMHC Malta, said: “We are deeply grateful for the community’s generosity. These funds will allow us to further support children with learning challenges by providing them with the space and tools they need to thrive. As RMHC marks 50 years globally, we’re proud to be part of this mission, helping families and children in Malta every step of the way.”
October 15, 2024, marked 50 years since the opening of the first Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1974. RMHC Global has since grown into a network of Houses and programmes across the world, dedicated to keeping families close during times of need. As part of this anniversary, RMHC chapters worldwide, including RMHC Malta, are celebrating this milestone of compassion, community, and care.
“For 50 years, RMHC has opened its doors to families and children in need around the world. Here in Malta, we are joining our global organisation to celebrate the families who we have impacted,” Xuereb added. “We remain committed to expanding our services and continuing to make a meaningful difference for those who need it most.”
